Your Router - The Neighborhood Post Office

Your router is the smartest device in your home network.

It does three main jobs:

  1. Gives out addresses IP addresses) to your devices

  2. Delivers messages between your devices

  3. Connects you to the internet

Example:

When you connect your phone to WiFi:

  1. Phone: "Hi router, I'm new here!"

  2. Router: "Welcome! Your address is 192.168.1.8"

  3. Phone: "Thanks! Now I can talk to other devices and the internet"
